New Topic: Family Traditions

Well, it's time for another Toon Club topic. Great job last week, everyone. This week's topic comes from Dan the Man, and it is: Family Traditions.

Who knows what skeletons will come out of the closet!

Happy Drawing

The Swampmaid

She appears out of the muck and drags her prey to a watery grave. My wife came up with the concept for this one. Thanks, Honey!

The Picnic Spot

Well, better late than never! Here's Swamp Critter #1. Alligators are like sharks...scary.

Swamp Boat Critter

Time is short this week. As I type I'm packing to go to Siggraph. Please accept this work in progress. This is also notice that I'll probably be M.I.A. next week. So you can't pick a fun topic.

(that's Missing in Action, not Mutual Improvement Association)

I've always wanted to ride one of those swamp boats.

Sea Turtle in the Murk

I know, I know, "It's a SEA turtle" you're all thinking...

Well, he wandered into an estuary and eventually wound up in the swamp.

There's a big crocodile with his jaws wide open down in the lower-left corner, just off-frame.

Well, I got it kinda done

I'll finish it this weekend

Possum

I posted this on my blog a couple weeks ago, but it was appropriate for this week so here it is

Boa Constrictor

The powerfully strong & affectionate Boa Constrictor.

Gators

Here is mine, no I didn't have any gators with flowers in thier hats in my home this week, but I was stuck on gators.

A stretch, but with good reason.

This is a VOLE. Common to both field and wetland... and, unfortunately, my house. My wife saw him two weeks ago (a whole other story) and I laid sticky traps. Two weeks, and nothin'. Then, last night, as I was on the phone I checked the pantry for a snack and-

AAAAAHHH!!!!!!

So here is what I saw. Only his face was stuck to the trap and- well, maybe I'll tell the whole story on my own blog. Enjoy!

The Swamp Thing

I don't know what this is supposed to be, but hopefully it can be classified as a swamp critter, because that's what I was going for.

Chinese pirate booty

Uh, i'm on vacation, and i don't have access to very good software, so please excuse if it's all messed up!

Space Pirate

Avast ye Earthlubbers! Here's my take on this here Pirate theme. If it's not from outer space, or at least sprouting tentacles, then it has no business being in my sketchbook. Arrrr!

Luigi

Just got back from out of town but wanted to post on this topic, so here is an older piece.

More pirates

Great stuff from everybody. Here is a quick page of pirate sketches.

Back in Action

Those Fun-Loving Pirates!

Thanks to Peter Pan, The Pirates of Penzance, The Pirate Movie, Muppet Treasure Island, and The Pirates of the Caribbean ride (among other things), I grew up believing that a pirate was a member of a sea-going performance group. What's with all the singing and dancing? Didn't pirates rob and kill mostly? Our entertainment presents a generally favorable view of the life of a pirate... yo ho.

Peg

Avast! I was sketching whatever comes to mind and because of the topic, everything turns into pirates. This turned into a color experiment for me, using a limited pallet. Pirates are cool.

Pirate

This guy is basically misunderstood. He's actually a good citizen, and always seeks for opportunities to help others.

Pyclops

If you lost your only eye at sea... the peg limbs should explain themselves.

Avast Ye!

It was a slow week on Toon Club... hopefully we'll get more posts for this week's topic: PIRATES.

Since the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie is now 34th in the all-time box office after just 10 days, I'm guessing most of us have had recent exposure to pirates, so hopefully we'll get a bunch of stuff this week. If you still want to post something for a previous topic, just back-date your post. Do the pirate one first, though, or you'll just keep falling further behind.

Oh yeah... this is one of Adrian's topics. That is all.

Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker

Ok, so I was originally going to have the whole "canabalistic" thing too, but everyone else drew it first. I don't really know what this version is all about, but it was a fun diversion!

It Sucks When You Work for the Baker

The Original Version

Taken from Wikipedia: "The earliest printed version gives a rather different picture of the three tradesmen-

Hey rub-a-dub-dub, ho! three maids in a tub, And who do you think were there? The butcher, the baker, the candlestick-maker, And all of them gone to the fair.

'Apparently,' say the editors of The Oxford Dictionary of Nursery Rhymes, 'they have been found in a place where no respectable townfolk should be, watching a dubious side-show at the local fair.'"

Take One Down, Pass Him Around

You don't want to be stranded in a tub at sea with a butcher and a baker. Bad things happen when their instincts kick in... especially if you've provided them with several candles.

Rub-A-Dub-Dub

Welcome to Toon Club, Rodney and Dan! It's good to have a couple of new artists aboard.

This week is Chad's turn to provide the Toon Club topic, and that topic is: The Butcher, The Baker, and The Candlestick Maker.

Three men in a tub? This could get interesting.

Alien Independence

The way I see it, Earthlings shouldn't be the only ones celebrating Independence.

Happy 4th of July everyone!
Happy Independence Day!

Flag Etiquette

At the Memorial Day Parade here in Honesdale,PA I was surprised at how few people knew proper parade flag etiquette. Thus inspiring my two weeks in one post.
