The 13th Ladybug


"The Ladybug Picnic" was always one of my favorite segments on Sesame Street. Of course, I wasn't the 13th ladybug... waiting by the phone with my marshmallow and my racing sack. Ladybugs can be so exclusionary.

1,2,3,... 4,5,6,... 7,8,9,... 10,11,12! Yeah, who could ever get that song out of their heads for about 36 hours after hearing it? Whoever wrote that song was a genius. Perhaps an evil genius, but a genius nevertheless. Great (but sad) illustration Shane!

Ha ha ha! I should have known you'd choose Ladybug Picnic! This is great.

How long has that poor little guy (gal) been waiting for a call? Most likely the other dozen bugs are just outside her door, playing and toasting and racing and such. I can't feel sorry for her when she refuses to be proactive. No wonder all the other bugs hate her. (And they do.. I asked.)

Hat's off to you, Master Cartoonist! I surrender my Alligator King crown to you!

Well, I was feeling sorry for her until I read Adrian's comment. I hate to admit it, but I don't remember this one from Sesame Street. I feel like I'm missing some crucial piece to my childhood now. Well, thank goodness for your link; I can start filling in the gaps.
I always love your drawings, Shane. One of the best things about them are the expressions. This one too. I also like the lighting. And the te-le-phone. Yep-yep-yep-yep-yep-yep yep. Te-le-phone.

Really cool! I love the mood and props etc. Such a great angle with so much emotion. Man, you know what you'd be good at? Storyboarding! You should really look into that! You've set up such great cinematophraphic(don't think that's a word) angles! I love the old phone......by "phone" I mean "gal". I also love the old phone....this time, I mean the actual phone.

sad. so very sad. I look and I weep...I was that ladybug. you have surfaced memories that I cared not to recount. I am coming down the hall to give you a piece of my mind right now.

...aside from my obvious emotional scarring, I think you have done a wonderful thing here. Do you think her eyeballs ever get stuck together being that close? I love the sound that makes in my head of her finally looking straight again and they pull apart.
