The Wizard of Oz
This is what happens when a flying, torch-gifting monkey meets a heartless Tin Man, a mindless Scarecrow, and a wimpy Lion. What a weird story. Dorothy is arm-wrestling the Witch off screen. That was my first sketch.

Lion is put in his place...
I love the Wizard of OZ! I think it was around the 4th grade when I would go to the library and check out as many OZ books as I could find; -especially the big fat ones with the amazing illustrations in them. I would study those drawings so much; they were a big influence on me. We currently live in a house that used to be on the MGM lot back in the day, and it is where they made all the costumes for the Wizard of OZ movie. We call it the Tailor of OZ's house. Cool, huh? I hope to add color to this one too, eventually.

The Tin Can
I figured if I posted this "piece" first, the rest of you won't feel ashamed to post your own this week.
Here are my thoughts:
Maybe this is what inspired L. Frank Baum to have a man made of tin who needs a heart.
Or maybe it's what eventually become of the Tin Man.
All I know is, I should be kicked out of Toon Club.

I think it's my turn, isn't it? Anyway, if it is, I decided it would be fun to do the wizard of oz. Dorothy. The tin man. The lion. The scarecrow. Toto. Some flying monkeys. Pick one or tackle the whole crew. word to your mothers.

Captain Hookie Mercury
My first few sketches were leaning toward the Frank Thomas design of Captain Hook. As I tried to get away from that, I realized I was just drawing Freddie Mercury of Queen. Rather than choose one direction or the other, I simply combined the two. My apologies to both Captain Hook and Freddie Mercury for seeing each of them as the other.

The future Hook
What a fortuitous coincidence. I've just been working on an illustration for someone based on Captain Hook so this gives me the opportunity to see what you all think of it. The idea here is to show him as an English gentleman prior to his becoming Hook and foreshadowing what he will become in the clouds.

Samurai Scrappy
Revealed at last! Who's behind the mask of the Hit Show, "Samurai Jack"?
When casting was looking for someone brave, daring and experienced in cartoon acting, one name came to the forefront. Scrappy-Doo! Asked if he minds his anonymity behind the mask, Scrappy answered, "After the Scooby and Scrappy show there weren't a lot of parts out there for cute, daring, pint-sized pups. So when they offered me the part of Sammy, as I like to call him, I leapt at it. After all, I have to bring home the kibbles and bits just like anyone else.
This Week's Topic - Due March 13th
After having a few laughs about the dinosaur with my face and staring at rough sketches of Samurai Jack all week, I thought of the topic: Samurai "your name here".
