New Topic Time

Hey, everyone! Looks like Toon Club's been struggling a bit... I know I've been bad, but at least I was out of the country on business, so ha ha on you!

The next topic is "A Day in the Life of a Caveman".

And I have every intention of catching up on the ones I missed! It's time for the baboon to cowboy up!

Wolf? Where? Er, I mean Werewolf....

It finally dawned on me that I was planning to post this for a Halloween topic on the 'club, but I totally spaced it the entire month of October. Okay, I know it's a cheating a little, but I've still got three more topics to catch up on! Give me a break already!

Halloween Stuff

Okay, Shane, I'll throw a couple of things into the ring. First-a product of medieval torture, this zombie was stretched on the rack a little too long. Second-I'm calling this guy the King of the Ghouls for want of something better.

Toon Club is Dying

Hey, I just got home from a week in New York City, and I see that we have no new topic... proving my theory that Toon Club is dying. So here's the deal... I guess:

From now until Halloween, everyone just post whatever spooky, gross, Halloween-ish stuff you want to post. We'll go with the very vague topic of "Halloween" until the first of November when we'll try to get Toon Club back on its normal track. Hopefully it won't be too late to save poor Toon Club.

Halloweenies: Robert Zombie

Dracula and the Undead Billy the Kid

In researching the last subject I came upon the Dracula v. Billy the Kid,, I thought it would be cool to have Billy kill the Vampire with a silver bullet. But when I missed the deadline I decided to have Billy the Kid be undead. To make matters more complicated, silver bullets kill werewolves not vampires, So what's a undead gunslinger going up against an equally undead monster going to do with a silver bullet?

The Living Dead Caricature

If you have green hair....that means your dead.

Sunday, October 15, 2006

This is an old one that I dug up from the crypt. I didn't have time to draw a new one, but it's too good of a topic to pass up.

Leave Your Body and Soul at the Door

So, it's another dead man's party! Who could ask for more? These were concepts that never got "fleshed" out, but what can ya do? I've had lots of experience with the living dead though. I was an animator on The Polar Express.

Dead Man's Party

It's about time the dead really started to live. Live it up, dead man.

Philip the Fashion Conscious Zombie

Philip the young fashion conscious ex-excutive zombie cut down in his prime.

Not sure why Philip came into being but after I drew his nails and considered what color he was going to be, I thought if he was a fashion conscious zombie he'd be having fits at the condition he'd gotten into since the 'accident'.

Growing Pains for Little Vamp

It's tough being the only daughter of the
most gorgeous woman in Transylvania.

I haven't been keeping up with the club lately but I thought maybe I'd try to get in something on Dracula. I'm a little late. You guys have been doing some great stuff.

I've been interested in trying out some characters in a simpler style with strong outlines. Hence this attempt.

New Topic - "The Living Dead"

Another Halloween topic for Toon Club!

Thanks for all the great work on Dracula. Hurry up, all of you who haven't posted one yet. I'm talking to you, Adrian! Hurry!

Anyway, "The Living Dead". Make it happen.

I Vaaaant to Suuuuck Your Bloooooood

Lest we forget that, in some of the more colorful versions, Dracula can actually change into a vampire bat. If he drinks blood, then changes, does the same amount of blood carry over to the bat version? If so, he probably gets a bad tummy ache when he does that. Then again, I'm sure drinking human blood isn't going to make you feel all the great anyway.

Dracula

Generally I believe Dracula has his hair slicked back... so I guess this is how he looks in the morning before he's combed away his "coffin head."

Drac and Merlin

I was in Florida last weekend so I didn't get a chance to post (or finish) my Merlin sketch. I also wanted to do a quick vampire so here they are

Tini Drac sketch

It's like a mod vampire at a poetry reading. Lame, I know.

Vlad

Some variation of this used to haunt me as a child. Drawing it gave me a small case of the creeps as it brought back some foggy memories. FUN! FUN! FUN!

Tomato Juice

After several awkward attempts at necks with his underbite, his buddies convinced Dracula Jr. that the V was for "Vampire". "You don't see anybody else drinking it do you?"

You all know it tastes exactly like blood, salt and all, so am I wrong for liking V8?

New Topic: Dracula

Well, Clubbers, thanks for the posts last week. Looks like a bunch of us got in at the end there.

We're going to be peppering October with some cool Halloween topics, and this week's happens to be DRACULA!

Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with!

Sagely, Stubby, Stubbly Merlin

There you have it! The new, and more stubby cartoon Merlin.

Blast me to Bermuda!

I always wondered what happened to Merlin after he shouted, "Blast me to Bermuda!" in The Sword in the Stone. Now I know he was just getting a pedicure. Although, now, this begs the question, "Why did he ever come back?!"

Merlin

No, I'VE made a huge mistake.

I first thought, "what if Merlin's last trick went horribly wrong." Then Adrian suggested that he was burned for practicing witchcraft... either one, it's still awful.

The Final Count Down

"I've made a huge mistake."

Man, I love magicians!

New Topic: Merlin

Oh-oh, it's maaaa-gic!

Sorry, that was stupid. Okay, the new topic is Merlin. You may begin your drawings.... NOW!

Looney Tune Style - almost

Didn't want to let another get topic get past me. I apologize for a recycled image. This is one of the model sheets from Faux Paw.

The idea behind Faux Paw was do make a "Warner-esque" cartoon. The biggest difference between our short and a Looney Tune is that the Looney Tune is actually funny.

I am coming for you, my little turtledove!

In my younger days, I used to submit Looney Tunes comic book samples to DC Comics. Strangely, I never drew Pepe LePew... So here's my first ever Pepe LePew and Penelope drawing.

Elmer

This is cheating, I know, but this is a series of character layout drawings I did when I worked for the WB.

Planning to Fail

Because signs don't make themselves.

Tweety?

I will never draw like Chuck Jones. But I can draw like me. Sorry.

New Topic: Looney Tunes

So... Only five posts for Tall Tales? C'mon, guys! That was a sweet topic! Well, if you get it done sometime, just post it in there somewhere.

For this week's topic, we'll be celebrating those lovable, rascally Warner Bros. characters, The Looney Tunes! Sharpen up your pencils, Chuck Jones style, and get crackin'!

Kevin Watermelonrind

If watermelon rind yielded watermelon when planted, perhaps Kevin Watermelonrind would have been as historically significant as Johnny Appleseed. But as things are, he was just an idiot who wasted a lot of time.

Pecos Jill

The day I saw Shane's Slue Foot Sue, I vowed I would draw me a tall tale like that some day. Pecos Jill had a lot more appeal than Slue Foot Stew, so this is what you get. Yeee-haw!

My Dad

Yeah, that's right. The Frankenstein monster is my dad. It's not a tall tale. Honest.

He's usually much happier than this.

Happy Birthday, Paul Bunyon

Babe always picked the perfect gift.

Update: I wanted to try a different color scheme for this, so I posted my experiment here.

New Topic

This week's topic is "TALL TALES." I imagine they're about to get even taller. That's all I have to say about that.

Monkey School

If monkeys ruled the world, they would be back to school now, too. (Sorry I was out of town last week). The teacher monkey is based on my 5th grade teacher who was not only inhumanly tall, but also a fierce environmentalist. I wonder if any extreme environmentalists would prefer the future depicted in Planet of the Apes over a continued human domination of Earth?

Brace Face

Back to school....wow... my first day of college was horrible. I just had braces put on my upper teeth and it just so happened to fall on the first day of fall term at Salt Lake Community College. I remember talking to a cute girl that day.....sparks flew, emotions ran high....I never saw her again.

I Hated Junior High

Every year was so miserable that I wished I had a giant robot to burn the place down... still kinda do.

Don't judge me.

Stupid Bus Numbers

When I was a kid I always used to forget my bus number on the first day of school. Who's paying any attention to the number on the bus that morning? I'd just climb on whichever bus stopped near my house. I never realized that oversight until after school. What a nightmare.

Special Surprise Topic: Back to School

To celebrate/mourn the end of summer, Shane and I have chosen a special surprise topic, "Back to School", for this week. Thanks to everyone for their great monkey drawings! Keep up the good work!

Monkey-Wrenches

There'd still be monkey wreches if Monkey's ruled the world, but they'd use them to bash the shells open on nuts and knock each other unconscious. Un-civilized!

Careful on the People Bars!

People bars! Get it? A little PLAY ON WORDS there. Ha ha ha... good times.

People bars...

The Opposable Thumbless Puppet Show

How do monkeys expect to rule the world when they can't even perform a simple puppet show? Opposable thumbs... the key to a functioning society.
